A program that makes a difference
Do you think kids deserve a second chance?
Join Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters as a community support for youth who have had involvement in the juvenile justice system. Through this program, we are providing mentors to young people who have had a brush with the law.
Our promise is to CARE - Compassion, Advocate, Respect & Educate
- Our mentors will show youth and their families compassion.
- Our mentors will be an advocate for youth as they work toward their goals.
- HBBBS and our mentors will respect youth and their families.
- Our mentors will help educate youth on their interests to provide a positive alternative to brushes with the law.
Volunteers meet weekly with their Little and be in regular contact. We ask volunteers commit to a minimum of 1 year. Bigs may assist youth in accomplishing goals and developing skills necessary to make better choices. Bigs can use their own experiences to provide support and guidance to Littles and be available to listen. Volunteers, youth and families will complete regular check-ins and surveys with HBBBS staff.
We are currently recruiting mentors who are willing to commit to an intensive, year-long mentoring relationship. Bigs in this program will gain valuable career experience which will prepare them for the rewards and challenges of working with system-involved youth.
